The Female Sexuality Workshop in the Community

Participant, Spring 2012: “If you are at all curious about sexuality, identity, power, privilege, pleasure, health, communication, community…go to FemSexComm! If you want to challenge your ideas, go to FemSexComm. If you want to get more comfortable talking about sex, sexuality, and pleasure, go to FemSexComm. I can’t recommend it highly enough. I wish every person could have the opportunity to take this workshop. It’s changed the way I think and the way I show up in the world.”

Participant, Fall 2011: “By encouraging me to own my statements, to ponder and openly discuss topics that I’ve never talked to anyone about before, FemSex has broadened the lens with which I view many elements of my life. FemSex facilitated a lot of ‘productive discomfort’ for me. It pushed me to reflect on numerous things — from elements of my work day to goings on in my friendships and romantic relationships to my body image and sexuality — mindfully and honestly.”

Participant, Spring 2012: “I liked the sections on gender and the violation of boundaries. I identify as genderqueer and have a gender non-conforming appearance. There are very few spaces that I can talk about gender, in non-traditional ways with safety and support. Being a part of FSC stimulated my thoughts around gender, language around gender and expanded my comfort around my experience around gender.”

Participant, Fall 2011: “Being new to the Bay Area, FemSexComm connected me with the people who have now become some of my closest friends here. The community aspect of the workshop has been amazingly powerful for me as it is helping to create serious social change. FemSexComm has rooted abstract and systemic concepts into my personal, lived experience. On a systemic level, it has taught me about how dialogue can be used as a powerful tool in social justice work. On a more personal level, it has drastically transformed how I relate to and respect my body in concrete ways.“

The Female Sexuality Workshop in the Community (FemSexComm) is a 15-week workshop series with peer-facilitated groups in San Francisco and Oakland.
